Home Educator Days

Next Home Educator’s Day: 3 September 2019

  • Enjoy two one-hour workshops:

Consumer History – Get hands-on with objects spanning 150 years of history! Begin by handing items from our collection, then work as detective historians to date products and explore their narratives. Designed to get learners thinking about how historic objects connect to our wider story, this workshop provides the perfect opportunity to explore consumer history as a tool to understanding chronological social history.

Chocolate Devising – A maths, design and enterprise-focused interactive session in which learners brand and market a new chocolate product. Start with market research, before selecting and costing ingredients, considering target audiences, establishing a pitch, and finally getting inventive creating chocolate packaging. A fantastic introduction to product design and marketing designed to encourage innovative thinking.

  • Explore our collection of over 15,000 items spanning the Victorian period to the present day, plus temporary exhibitions looking at how technology inspires toy production, sustainable packaging and brand memories.
  • Give your children a fantastic introduction to topics including design, market research, advertising, consumer history and conservation, whilst meeting like-minded home educating families!
