Self-Guided Student Visits

Learn about the Museum at your own pace

We welcome all groups to the Museum, including universities, primary and secondary schools, home-school groups, tour groups, and overseas students.

On this page, you’ll find everything you need to plan your visit. If you have any questions, please email us or call 020 7243 9611.

Plan Your Visit

Self-guided visits include access to our permanent Time Tunnel and any temporary exhibitions (subject to availability).

We recommend allowing around one hour for your visit. To help maximise engagement, we suggest providing students with a task or activity to complete while exploring the exhibits.  You can find downloadable worksheets furher down this page.

While we update and change our exhibitions, there will be periodic full and partial closures of our temporary exhibition spaces between 20 April and 4 June. Our main exhibition, the Time Tunnel, will remain open as normal during this period.  If there is a specific exhibit you would like to see, please contact us at info@museumofbrands.com to confirm availability before your visit.

When you arrive

Please show your ticket at reception on arrival so we can check you in.  For larger groups, we ask that you avoid gathering on the pavement or in the doorway.  Once inside, our team will be happy to direct you to the most suitable area.  If you arrive earlier than your ticket time, please do come in, as we are often able to allow early access to some spaces

Food and Drink

A lunch space is not available for packed lunches, so please make alternative arrangements.  Pre-booked lunch options are available via our cafe. We recommend Portobello Green and Maxilla Gardens as outdoor lunch spaces, both only a 5 minute walk from the Museum. If this may be a barrier to booking, please contact our bookings team before making your reservation to discuss the options available.

Bringing multiple groups?

If you are bringing muliple groups on the same day, please contact our Bookings Team to discuss the best schedule for the day. We recommend students will spend 30-60 mins exploring the exhibitions. To help maximise engagement, we suggest providing students with a task or activity to complete while exploring the exhibits. You can find downloadable worksheets furher down this page.

Memorial Garden

Our beautiful, award-winning Memorial Garden was established in 1990 as a peaceful oasis for those living with HIV/AIDS and using the hospice and other services provided in this building when it was the London Lighthouse. The sheltered garden is described by visitors as ‘a haven’, ‘an oasis’, ‘a hidden gem’.  The garden is looked after by a small group of volunteers and the gardener who originally developed it.  We welcome all groups who would like to use the garden space.  However, we ask that is it treated with the respect it deserves and children are supervised at all times.

Code of Conduct for Students

To create a positive and engaging learning environment, we ask that all students visiting the Museum follow this code of conduct. Please note that students must be supervised by school staff at all times, in line with the Museum Safeguarding Policy.

  1. Show respect to classmates, teachers, and workshop facilitators at all times, helping to create an inclusive and productive learning environment.
  2. Handle Museum objects with care, especially items from the Museum’s handling collection.
  3. Avoid using mobile phones or other devices during workshops unless the facilitator gives permission.
  4. Be considerate of all Museum visitors when exploring the Museum as a group. Move calmly, speak quietly, and stay with your group at all times.

If a facilitator feels that a student’s behaviour is inappropriate, they will ask the student’s teacher to intervene.
